Peppi’s In The Top 100 Burgers On Yelp, 2023

17. Peppi’s, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

The #7 (Roethlis“burger”)

If a burger looks like a hoagie, can it still be great? At Peppi’s, “a local Pittsburgh favorite” known for its sub sandwiches, the answer is yes. Their big, filling burgers are served on Italian bread baked fresh everyday at nearby Mancini’s Bread Company. Old photos of patrons and athletes set the stage as you dine, and former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is still on the menu roster. His namesake #7—also known as the Roethlis“burger”—is a hefty beef-and-sausage wonder that Yelpers agree every Steelers fan should enjoy. “People come from around the globe to try our little creation,” owners Lou Bosser and Jeff Trebac say on their website. “The #7 is definitely not a gimmick, it is a culinary delight.”

One of 3 Pittsburgh locations, Peppi’s on the North Side offers some simpler burger options—including a bacon cheeseburger and a mushroom Swiss burger—as well as the Forbes Field (named after the Steelers’ first home), topped with grilled onions, sweet peppers, and melted provolone. Don’t forget the fresh-cut fries, which Tyler B. calls “perfect; crispy, salty, and cooked until medium-golden brown.”

Most popular burger: Peppi’s scores a touchdown with the #7, “a massive 12-inch sandwich” packed with ground beef, pork sausage, lettuce, onion, tomato, fried egg, and American cheese.

Yelpers say: “Cash only, but prices are cheap and the food was great. Highly recommend sharing a sandwich with another person because they are large. The patio behind the restaurant is really cool, with graffiti art on the walls and tables with large umbrellas.”—Theodore B.
